Azza Elhosseiny is the Executive Director of the Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF). Born in Cairo, Egypt, she earned a degree in Business Administration from Cairo University (1988) and graduated from The High Institute of Cinema (1991). She began as an actress and assistant editor before focusing on directing documentaries for Egyptian TV. In the 2000s, she became active in independent culture, working with NGOs and cultural spaces. In 2012, she co-founded the Independent Shabab Foundation with scriptwriter Sayed Fouad, established Nawafez cinema clubs, and co-founded LAFF. Through the festival, she created the Etisal Film Fund (2014) to support young African filmmakers and launched The Factory Initiative (2022) for female directors. She is currently completing her first feature documentary, The Magic of Burollus Lake, while developing her narrative feature, Fifteen Days.

Elle a débuté comme actrice et assistante monteuse avant de se consacrer à la réalisation de documentaires pour la télévision égyptienne. Dans les années 2000, elle s’est engagée dans la culture indépendante, collaborant avec des ONG et des espaces culturels. En 2012, elle a cofondé la Fondation Independent Shabab avec le scénariste Sayed Fouad, créé les ciné-clubs Nawafez et cofondé le LAFF. À travers le festival, elle a mis en place le Fonds Etisal (2014) pour soutenir les jeunes cinéastes africains et lancé The Factory Initiative (2022) pour les réalisatrices. Elle termine actuellement son premier long métrage documentaire, The Magic of Burollus Lake, tout en développant son film
de fiction, Fifteen Days.
